A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly December shooting at a Decatur funeral, authorities said.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said 29-year-old Denard Conyers and 47-year-old Russell Fillmore were arguing at a funeral at a house when Fillmore was shot Dec. 20.

Officers found Fillmore lying on the front lawn of the residence in the 600 block of Daniel Avenue. He was unresponsive, according to an incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. EMTs treated Fillmore, but he died the same day from his injuries.

In the report, a witness said Fillmore got into an argument with an unnamed woman and reached for his gun. He eventually moved to the back of the house with his aunt. The witness said he heard gunfire shortly after, but he was not sure who shot Fillmore, the report said.

The report added that a different witness stated that he saw a man shoot Fillmore in the driveway.

Investigators arrested Conyers at an Atlanta residence Tuesday. He was charged with murder and aggravated assault, DeKalb sheriff’s office spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said in a news release.

Conyers was taken to the DeKalb jail, where he is being held without bond.
