Woodstock has started its annual round of fire hydrant testing, and citizens may see the city’s testing company flowing, painting and greasing hydrants in their neighborhoods.

Signs will be posted where the work will take place, the city said.

While no disturbance to water service is expected, “hydrant testing frequently stirs residual sediment in the water mains that could result in some discoloration of the water but poses no safety or health risk at all,” the city said. “The discoloration will cease shortly after enough water has run through the system, but residents should avoid washing white clothes until the discoloration ceases.”
