The Woodstock City Council has approved an agreement with Cobb County to close a 1.8-mile gap in the Noonday Creek Trail.

The Noonday Creek Trail Extension Project will extend the path from its trailhead at Ga. 92 in Woodstock, in Cherokee County, to Noonday Park on Shallowford Road in Cobb, according to a staff report to the council.

Woodstock is to receive $2.5 million in federal transportation funds for the project and will be responsible for costs in excess of that amount, including the 20 percent local match of $633,668, according to its memorandum of understanding with Cobb.

The city will manage the project, with actual design and construction by independent contractors. It will work with Cobb and its Department of Transportation, parks and water system to coordinate such issues as easements, utility relocations, and access through parks and past the Noonday Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Woodstock intends to advertise for construction bids in mid- to late 2021 and to complete construction within two years, the memorandum says.
