An unidentified woman who was struck and killed by a train Thursday night is believed to have taken her own life, according to police.

"It appears to have been suicide," Marietta police spokesperson Jennifer Murphy said Friday morning. "We still don't know who she is because she didn't have any identification on her. We're attempting to identify her through fingerprints."

Police said the victim is described as a 55- to 60-year-old white female.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Thursday where the railroad tracks run between at Cobb Parkway and Old Highway 41 at White Circle Road.

Six soldiers were honored, each receiving Meritorious Service Medals, Thursday for heroic actions responding to the shooting at Fort Stewart. “One of the things I can say unequivocally is that the fast action of these soldiers — under stress and under trauma and under fire — absolutely saved lives from being lost,” U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll told reporters as the six soldiers stood near him Thursday. “They are everything that is good about this nation.” (Hyosub Shin/AJC)
