A 32-year-old Atlanta woman died Tuesday from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run wreck over the weekend on I-75 in Henry County, authorities said.
The Henry County Coroner confirmed that Tamika Walker was pronounced dead at 11:31 a.m. at Grady Memorial Hospital, Sgt. Joey Smith of the Henry County Police Department told the AJC.
Police are seeking the driver in the accident, which sent five people to area hospitals.
The wreck happened about 3:30 p.m. Sunday when a dark-colored SUV collided with a white 2011 Nissan Versa on northbound I-75 north of Hudson Bridge Road, police said. The Nissan went into the woods on the side of the highway and crashed.
All northbound lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours as rescue personnel worked to extricate one victim trapped inside the car.
That victim and three others were taken by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital, and another person was flown to Atlanta Medical Center, Smith said. The survivors' names were not released.
The SUV is believed to have front passenger-side damage, police said. It may have Tennessee registration, but that has not been confirmed. It was last seen traveling north into Clayton County.
Police asked anyone with information on the accident to contact Investigator J. Brooks at 770-288-8291. People also can submit information via the Henry County police Facebook page.
