DeKalb County police are investigating after a woman was found Monday afternoon shot in the chest on the side of the road.

Marquita Franklin, 36, was on her back on Alston Drive with a gunshot wound to the left breast, when an officer responded to a call from a resident, a police report said. Franklin was on the roadside near the backyard of a home off Memorial Drive.

She was breathing but unconscious and had no identification, the report said, not revealing how she was identified.

She died on the way to the hospital.

Further information hasn’t been released.
