A woman charged with fleeing a hit-and-run accident in which a Smyrna motorcycle police officer was seriously hurt was released from the Cobb County jail Wednesday after posting $25,000 bond, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Jennifer Karen Cook, 21, of Chamblee was charged with hit-and-run and serious injury by vehicle, both felonies, and failure to yield while making a left turn, a misdemeanor, in connection with the Tuesday afternoon accident.

Smyrna police Cpl. Gene Crawford was northbound on South Cobb at Ridge Road about 3 p.m. when Cook's 1997 Nissan Maxima turned left into the officer and his motorcycle, police said. The 53-year-old officer crashed, sustaining two broken ankles, a broken leg and a fractured hip.

Cook fled the scene but was located and arrested a short time later, police said.

Crawford is a 29-year veteran of the Smyrna Police Department with about 14 years as a motor officer.
