A woman and her son were killed Sunday when his father lost control of a tractor-trailer on I-85 North in Troup County, officials said.

The Georgia State Patrol on Monday identified the victims as 29-year-old Cynthia Lynn Harris and 1-year-old Christopher Berni Jr.

A baby, Christian Lane Berni, was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite with critical injuries, the GSP said.

All are from Phenix City, Ala.

The boys’ father, Christopher Lee Berni, 31, of Columbus, was driving the truck about 10 a.m., when he lost control near mile marker 48, veered off the roadway and traveled over a guardrail, according to the GSP.

No other vehicles were involved in the deadly crash.

The father was taken to Columbus Midtown Medical. His condition is not known.

Troup County is about 66 miles southwest of Atlanta.
