Roswell has announced daytime lane closures on one of its busiest thoroughfares, Atlanta Street (Ga. 9), beginning Saturday and continuing for four consecutive weekends.

Georgia Department of Transportation contractors will be digging in the travel lanes of Atlanta Street from south of Marietta Highway (Ga. 120) to the Chattahoochee River bridge, according to a city announcement. The utility excavations also are planned for Riverside Road from Atlanta Street to Riviera Road.

The work, to collect underground utility information to prepare for future construction, is anticipated this Saturday and Sunday and Feb. 15-16, Feb. 22-23, and Feb. 29-March 1.

“To reduce the disruption of weekend traffic and reduce the noise impact at night, the lanes will only be closed on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.,” the city said. “No weekday or overnight lane closures are anticipated. Also, no work will take place within 500 feet of churches between 7 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sundays.”
