Walker named DeKalb schools' budget chair
The DeKalb County school board voted Tuesday to appoint Eugene Walker as chairman of the budget committee.
Walker, who was re-elected to District 9 last year, comes after board member Jesse “Jay” Cunningham withdrew from the position.
The board chair appointed Cunningham to lead the committee. After questions from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Cunningham withdrew from the position Monday.
Cunningham pleaded guilty to stealing $12,500 from McDonald’s in 1982. Court records show his board wages are being garnished to pay more than $134,000 in outstanding debts.
