A woman on her way to vote Tuesday lost control of her car, crashed into a gate, and went about 12 feet over a ledge and into a DeKalb County church playground.

“The female was driving,” DeKalb police Maj. Stephen Fore said. “While parking, the vehicle surged forward, going over the curb, through a fence and down an embankment.”

Nancy Najmaister told DeKalb police she was driving her husband to their polling location, Intown Community Church, when she lost control of her silver Mercedes-Benz and the car went airborne.

“It was just shock,” she told Channel 2 Action News. “I tried to stop it and I couldn’t believe it when the car surged hard.”

No children or adults were injured in the accident, and both Najmaister and her husband were safely removed from the vehicle.

Asked if she ended up voting, Najmaister said, “Not today.”
