Fayetteville’s imminent plans for a new city hall and multi-use park space are illustrated in a recently released online video. The three-minute virtual tour shows the conceptual designs for the new administrative structure, which will be built on 10 acres along Stonewall Avenue that previously housed the Board of Education offices. Adjacent to that will be a plaza with pedestrian paths and outdoor education space, in addition to a park featuring a playground, splash pad, picnic areas, restrooms, a dog park, a performance area, recreation space and a pond. The former school bus barn on the property will be converted into a gymnasium.
City Manager Ray Gibson outlined the budget and scheduling at the Aug. 15 City Council meeting; the project is set to begin in mid-November and will cost approximately $24.3 million. Construction is estimated to take 275 days, which would put completion in the fall of 2020.
