The time it takes to develop a successful video game can be months, or even years.
This weekend, however, competing teams at Kennesaw State University will have just 48 hours to impress a panel of judges at this year’s Fall Game Jam.
More than 200 game developers from the campus, other universities and the general public are expected at KSU from 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday afternoon for the competition.
The event is expected to attract aspiring artists, musicians, game designers and computer programmers and others interested in developing multimedia games, according to . Jon Preston, a KSU professor in software engineering and game development.
Preston said a successful video game is both challenging and fun.
“It takes a good mix of art, music and software engineering,” he said in explaining why a variety of high-tech expertise will be represented. The typical size of teams this weekend will be about four people, but game development teams can involve 100 people or more.
The event gets under way Friday at 5 p.m. at KSU's Atrium Building, 1100 South Marietta Parkway in Marietta. Registration information is available here. There is a $25 registration fee.
Entries will be judged by members of the Georgia Game Developers Association at 5 p.m. Sunday. The best game designers will win passes to the Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo Oct. 9-11 in Atlanta.
Participants must be at least 18 years old to attend the KSU event.
“It’s not just for students,” Preston said. “Anyone who has an interest in game development can attend.”
The event is sponsored by KSU’s College of the Arts and College of Computing and Software Engineering.
