Stating that the spread of COVID-19 requires “extraordinary and immediate corrective actions,” the Fayette County Board of Commissioners met in special session Tuesday and unanimously approved an emergency ordinance that applies to all unincorporated areas.

Using language similar to orders already issued in Fayetteville, Peachtree City and Tyrone, the ordinance closes restaurants to in-person dining (but allows pickup and delivery) and limits public gatherings to 10 people or fewer, with 6-foot distancing. All county-owned and -maintained property (including parks, playgrounds and recreation fields) are closed to the public, but walking trails remain open. Residents are asked to shelter at home except for emergency or essential services, work-related travel, caregiving or exercise. The transfer station will maintain normal hours, but the Public Health office is open by appointment only.

Unless amended, the emergency order is effective through April 30; county offices will also remain closed to the public until then. Details are at www.fayettecountyga.gov.
