One day after a body was found near railroad tracks not far from I-85 in Atlanta, an official said the body "appears to have been struck by a train."

In an emailed statement, CSX spokeswoman Kristin Seay said the body was found about 8:10 a.m. Tuesday beside the CSX railroad tracks at the Piedmont Road underpass.

Officials have not identified the person yet, but a witness said the person was a man.

Sophia Brauer, a homeless woman who stays at a nearby camp, said seeing the body was disturbing.

“A normal person wouldn’t want to see a dead body like that,” Brauer said. “He was not recognizable at all.”

Other people who stay at the camp said they did not hear anything before the body was discovered.

Seay said there were no interruptions to train traffic and CSX is cooperating with the Atlanta Police Department in the investigation.
