A tiny house on wheels is coming to Atlanta

For more information about renting the Escape Traveler, visit www.gatinyrentals.com. For tickets and details EarthShare of Georgia's Annual Earthday, which will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, visit  www.earthsharega.org/earth-day/party.

The tiny home tour will be held in conjunction with the 21st annual Earthshare of Georgia Earth Day Party, an Earth Day fundraiser that includes food, music and a silent auction. Tiny House Atlanta, a nonprofit that advocates for building sustainable, energy-efficient homes, and Georgia Tiny Rentals, a tiny house rental company, are sponsors of the event.

The tiny home phenomenon has spurred interest across the country with HGTV shows like "Tiny House Hunters." Airbnb also recently revealed that one of their most desired rental properties is a Buckhead treehouse.

Georgia Tiny Rentals co-founder Kim Buccerio and co-founder Will Johnston started their business to build on metro Atlantan's fascination with homes that champion the concept of “less is more.”

“We want to give people an idea of what it’s like to live in this type of space,” Buccerio said in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’re into minimizing the indoor space, so people can maximize the outdoor time by enjoying nature and what’s around them.”

The newly built Escape Traveler just arrived to Atlanta Wednesday from Wisconsin and already has a rental waiting list. Sleeping six, the house is 24 feet long, 8.5 feet wide and equipped with a full kitchen, bathroom with a shower, a cozy living area with a futon couch and TV and two lofts with queen size beds.

"It can be used for corporate events, be rented out for weekend getaways or for any short-term rental," Buccerio said. "People can add their name to the waiting list and, once their dates are set, we will bring the tiny home to you."

Georgia Tiny Rentals nightly rate will depend on mileage and added accommodations, such as a stocked refrigerator, but Bucciero would not confirm the minimum rental rate.  The going nightly rate for Airbnb's sought after treehouse is $350 - $400 a night, with a two-night minimum.

In coming months, Georgia Tiny Rentals will expand its fleet of tiny rentals for corporate events, parties, vacations and other short-term rentals.
