Six Honda Accords have been stolen from the city of Forest Park since Thursday, and police are warning residents about what they call a sudden spike in thefts of cars of that make and model.

"We are trying to get the word out to all citizens of the metro Atlanta area, specifically Forest park, to be on the look out for suspicious persons in and and around this make and model," a police spokesman said.

The thefts are occuring in the overnight hours with no evidence left behind. There have been no reported recoveries of any of these cars at this time, police said.

Authorities ask that anyone with information about the thefts to call the Forest Park Police department at 404-366-4141.

Thieves have done their homework. The Honda Accord is the No. 1 stolen vehicle in Georgia and nationally, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, based on data from 2010, the most recent figures available. Others on the Top 5 list in Georgia and across the country are Honda Civics, Toyota Camrys, Ford F150 pickups and Chevrolet pickups, according to the crime bureau.
