Q: I’m a big fan of the PBS series “Downton Abbey.” I’ve traveled to England, and I’m trying to figure out exactly what part of England it’s recorded. The credits roll so fast it’s hard to read them.

-- Bill Drew, Decatur

A: "Downton Abbey" is filmed at Highclere Castle, the home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. It's about five miles south of Newbury, which is west of London. Highclere has been home to the Carnarvons since 1679, and the home seen in the series was completed in 1878. It is open to the public at Easter, during the summer and on certain other days. Its website is www.highclerecastle.co.uk. "Downton Abbey" is in its second season.

Q: Whatever happened to the Georgia Tech-Georgia freshman football game that was played every year on Thanksgiving?

-- Sandy Bull, McDonough

A: The Thanksgiving Day freshman game, which became a junior varsity game after freshmen became eligible in 1972, was played from 1933-93, except for 1943-44. It was a charity game for Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, which merged with Egleston Children's Health Care System to form Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in 1998. The game was discontinued when scholarships were capped at 85, along with other factors, UGA athletic department spokesman Claude Felton told Q&A on the News in an email. Georgia Tech won 30 games, UGA won 28 and the teams tied once.
