Despite public outcry and a petition to save a Super Target in Roswell, the store is set to shut its doors permanently at close of business Friday.

After news of the closure became public in November, a petition was circulated that implored the company to keep the store open. It has been signed by more than 1,800 people.

Stores are typically closed as a result of several years of decreasing profitability, a company spokeswoman has said.

The location, at 2600 Holcomb Bridge Road, was originally scheduled to close Jan. 28, but a Target employee said this week that it will close Friday. Certain items are 50 percent off.

This will leave only one Target — Super or otherwise — in Roswell, at 1135 Woodstock Road.
