A Cobb County high school student was arrested for having a knife with an eight-inch blade in his backpack, according to police.
Lonnie Treaudo Benn, 17, was arrested Thursday at South Cobb High School in Austell, jail records show.
A school official entered a restroom at the school after smelling smoke, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the AJC. The school official searched Benn and found the knife in his bag, the warrant states.
Benn, of a Marietta address, was charged with carrying a weapon within a school safety zone, a felony. He was released early the following morning on $5,000 bond, according to jail records.
According to Cobb County school system rules, students caught with weapons could face expulsion.
