UPDATE: The restaurant passed its re-inspection on Oct. 7 and its new score is a 91/A. The restaurant received one citation during the re-inspection, and that was for failure to properly cold-hold potentially hazardous food stored on the cook line.
*Correction to 9/28 story: Streck and Van Luevan are no longer involved with Tavernpointe. Streck is not involved with Seven Lamps and Van Luevan is not an owner of Cypress.
A popular Midtown eatery failed a recent health inspection after being cited for several infractions related to sanitation, food storage and disposal.
Tavernpointe located at 1545 Peachtree St., Suite 101, scored a 63/U Tuesday after a routine inspection by the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness. According to the report, inspectors said they observed the following violations:
- Failure to use sinks as designated (saw sliced potatoes soaking in meat sink)
- Wet wiping cloths not stored in sanitizing solution in between uses in the main kitchen, and behind the bar
- Thermometers were absent in refrigerators
- Failure to discard food past use-by date
- Beef stored over vegetables and ready to eat bread
- Failure to maintain an accessible handwashing sink in the main kitchen and at the bar (clear bin and cup in handwashing sinks)
Several calls made to the regional manager for comment Wednesday were not immediately returned. Restaurants with low-performing scores are generally re-inspected within 10 days.
