Update (7/12/17): The suspect charged with robbing two Wells Fargo branches in Gwinnett County has also been charged with giving false information to police after using a family member's name and birthdate upon arrest.

Hien M. Nguyen, 34, told police he was his brother, 28-year-old Sang D. Nguyen, police said.

Police discovered his true identity when they took Hien Nguyen’s fingerprints. The lead investigator on the case also linked Hien Nguyen to an attempted bank robbery in Norcross on July 5.

Hien Nguyen wore the same Superman shirt he wore in the other two robberies and passed the teller a similar note demanding money, police said. The teller did not give Hien Nguyen any cash.

In addition to the original two charges of robbery, Hien Nguyen has been charged with attempt to commit robbery, giving a false name and date of birth and a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.

Updated story: A man who robbed two banks while wearing a Superman T-shirt was arrested last week, Gwinnett County police said.

Hien M. Nguyen has been charged with two counts of robbery.

The first robbery occurred on July 5 at a Wells Fargo branch on Indian Trail Lilburn Road in unincorporated Norcross. Nguyen waited in line at the bank; when he reached the teller, he passed the teller a note demanding cash, police said. When the money was handed over, Nguyen left the bank, according to police.

The next day, Nguyen went to a Wells Fargo branch on Buford Highway in unincorporated Norcross, again waiting in line before giving the teller a note demanding cash, police said. Nguyen was wearing the same Superman shirt he had worn during the previous robbery, surveillance photos show.

A Gwinnett County police officer saw the surveillance images from the robberies and recognized Nguyen from a traffic stop the officer had conducted earlier in the week. Nguyen was found at a Norcross hotel around 10 p.m. on July 6, and he was arrested after a brief interview with police.

Nguyen is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
