Suspect in failed liquor store robbery turns self in

A suspect in an attempted robbery that led to fatal gunfire turned himself in to Cobb County police Monday afternoon.

Shannon Harper, 23, faces murder and aggravated assault charges for his alleged role in the incident, which left a 21-year-old dead. Harper, of College Park, was booked into the Cobb jail, where he was being held without bond late Monday.

Cobb County police did not identify Harper's role in the foiled robbery because of the ongoing investigation, Officer Joe Hernandez told the AJC.

Two gunmen entered the Windy Hill Bottle Shop around 11:35 p.m. Dec. 4 and attempted to rob the store clerk, Hernandez said. The clerk was also armed, and the three men all fired shots, he said.

One of the suspects, Louis George Jr., of College Park, died from his wounds early the following day after being transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, police said.

The store clerk was not injured, and the second suspect walked out of the store and eluded capture.

A warrant for Harper's arrest was secured Friday, according to jail records. He was arrested shortly after 4 p.m. Monday after turning himself in, Hernandez said.

The investigation into the attempted robbery and shooting continues, Hernandez said.
