Mother Nature gave metro Atlanta motorists a reprieve from interstate repaving last weekend, but a drier, sunnier forecast for Saturday and Sunday could mean big delays on the top-end Perimeter.

That's where a major resurfacing project is expected to shut down the two left lanes of I-285 eastbound from Paces Ferry Road to Ashford Dunwoody Road, beginning at 8 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. on Monday.

On the westbound side of I-285, the three right lanes will be blocked between Ga. 400 and Roswell Road from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday.

Other projects that could cause delays this weekend include repaving in the left lane of I-285 eastbound from I-85 to I-675 on the south side and roadwork on I-575 southbound south of Sixes Road in Cherokee County.

All of those projects are weather-permitting, and unlike last weekend, when the rain began early on Saturday, the forecast for this weekend will likely permit the construction.

While there is a good chance of rain on Friday, "it does clear out for us over the weekend with lots of sunshine," Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Minton's forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of rain on Friday, becoming sunny on Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the 80s each day.
