After a cold Friday of scattered snow flurries, morning lows in the mid-20s and afternoon temperatures that weren’t expected to climb above the low 40s, forecasters are promising sunny and warmer weather for the King Holiday weekend.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said highs will be in the low 50s Saturday and Sunday and mid-50s on Monday.

Lows will dip back into the mid-20s early Saturday, but should bottom out in the 30s early Sunday and Monday.

Those sunny skies will be welcomed by road crews working on a few metro road consruction projects this weekend.

Bridge work on I-285 eastbound will have two right lanes shut down from Riverside Drive to Roswell Road between 9 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Sunday.

Between the airport and downtown, the left lane of I-85 northbound near Cleveland Avenue will be shut down from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

In Clayton County, the right lane of I-75 northbound will be closed near Forest Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Downtown motorists can expect extra traffic this weekend in the area of the Georgia World Congress Center, which is hosting the annual Atlanta Boat Show through Sunday and the A-Town Showdown volleyball tournament, which runs through Monday.

Adding to the congestion in that area will be a Hawks game at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Philips Arena.

On Monday afternoon, the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday march and rally will have traffic tied up in the area of the King Center. The march, which begins at 1:15 p.m., goes down Auburn Avenue from Peachtree Street to Jackson Street.

Other metro towns holding King Day parades on Monday include Stone Mountain and Fayetteville.
