Each year the Arbor Day Foundation honors cities across the country for their commitment to effective urban forest management by naming them as a Tree City USA.

Berkeley Lake has been honored again with the title for the 21st year. This year the city is planting pink native azaleas, Rhododendron canescens, along Ridge Road. Their blooms provide nectar for the tiger swallowtail butterfly that have been living in the leaves on the ground under the trees through winter.

Sugar Hill has also announced their 2020 recognition as a Tree City USA for having a tree board or department, a tree ordinance, an annual forestry budget of at least $2 per capita as well as an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

“The trees being planted and cared for by the City of Sugar Hill are ensuring that generations to come will enjoy a better quality of life,” stated Dan Lambe, President of the Arbor Day Foundation.

Other Gwinnett cities listed as a 2019 Tree City USA include Duluth (30 years), Grayson, Lilburn, Loganville, Mountain Park, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Snellville and Suwanee.

2020 Tree City USA lists will be available in June. Information: www.arborday.org.
