There will not be a special election this spring to fill the mayor’s seat in Stockbridge.

The legislation necessary to authorize a special election is moving through the Georgia General Assembly now and its passage is expected, but the qualifying dates for a May special election, which was the city’s goal, have passed.

The city can now consider whether to wait until an already-scheduled election, such as the July primary or November general election, or schedule an off-cycle election that has not been budgeted.

Tim Thompson resigned as mayor during a December meeting.

Mayor Pro Tem Anthony Ford will remain acting mayor until a new mayor is elected or the council decided to appoint one.
