Stockbridge will hold a groundbreaking for its planned amphitheater next week.

Leaders of the Henry County city will meet at 11 a.m. Monday at Stockbridge City Hall, 4640 North Henry Boulevard, to celebrate the new $15 million project.

Stockbridge approved the facility, which leaders hope to open in fall of 2020, earlier this month. The amphitheater, which will be built next to Stockbridge City Hall, will seat more than 3,000 visitors, offer a terraced lawn for guests, include a green room for performers and host two concessions buildings for dining.

It will be a first in Henry and will be built by Atlanta-based H.J. Russell & Company. Henry is the second fastest-growing county in metro Atlanta — almost doubling in population in the last 20 years

"The groundbreaking for the Stockbridge Amphitheater will be historical as this major construction will be the first of its kind in the city and county, " Stockbridge City Manager Randy Knighton said in a statement.

"Stockbridge is truly on the move and our new amphitheater will be a unique asset to downtown Stockbridge,” he said.
