The 10th annual celebration of all things trains will return later this month to the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw.

“Trains! Trains! Trains!” is set for Saturday, Jan. 25 and Sunday, Jan. 26 at the museum at 2829 Cherokee Street in Kennesaw. This year’s event will include returning favorites as well as new activities.

The headline activity will be the Lego Building Challenge, which seeks to construct a train model. Visitors will also have a chance to use the Lego free-play area to put together their own creations.

“’Trains! Trains! Trains!’ is our most exciting annual event, and we are gearing up for what is sure to be our best experience yet,” said Dr. Richard Banz, executive director of the museum. “We are thrilled to reach our tenth year hosting an event where families can share in the nostalgia and appeal of model trains and make memories that will last a lifetime.”

Organizers have lined up new activities as well as returning favorites that will allow residents to interact with — and even operate — some of the model trains.

Railroad artifacts from the museum will be on display for visitors to explore. A 1920 steam-powered tractor built by Advance-Rumely Thresher Company will also make an appearance.

The museum will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the two-day event. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for residents age 65 and older, and $5 for children ages 3-17, active-duty military personnel and college students. Admission for museum members is free.
