Police arrested a Kennesaw man Thursday in connection with the murder of a woman police believe was his mother.
Police officers encountered 25-year-old Justin Wilburn at the scene of an auto accident in west Cobb County in which he had been driving too fast for Thursday's rainy conditions and hit an unattended vehicle, authorities said.
Officers on the scene noticed injuries that raised some questions, Cobb County police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
Pierce would not describe Wilburn's injuries, saying only that further examination of the injuries done at a hospital prompted police investigation which led them to check at his mother's Powder Spring's home in the 5300 block of Barlow Pass.
Around 5:40 p.m., police found Joann Wilburn dead from apparent stab wounds, Pierce said.
Wilburn was charged with felony murder, and is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in Marietta.
Police continue to investigate.
