The building housing the Roswell-Alpharetta Public Safety Training Center, a joint training facility for fire, police, emergency medical professionals and other first responders, could be closed for up to a year because of structural damage caused by the Dec. 8-9 snowstorm, officials said.

“Metal roof trusses that support the roof were damaged,” said Roswell spokeswoman Darnisha Green. “The weight of the snow caused some of the truss joints to fail.”

Structural engineers have investigated the building, at 11565 Maxwell Road in Alpharetta, and have provided a solution to make it safe to enter, Green said. Once that is done, movers will remove furniture and office equipment, and a construction company will replace the roof structure.

Officials have identified a commercial building to lease as classroom space while the training center is being repaired. The temporary space should be ready in about four to six weeks. Until then, training currently scheduled will be conducted in classrooms around Roswell and Alpharetta.
