A sixth-grader was in the hospital Thursday night after falling from a second-floor atrium at a northwest Atlanta school, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The John F. Kennedy Middle School student crashed through a glass panel and landed on the wooden gym floor one flight below earlier in the day, the report said.

She and another girl were roughhousing when the incident occurred, a school spokesperson told Channel 2.

The girl reportedly is at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with non-life-threatening injuries.

Atlanta Public Schools spokesman Keith Bromery said officials are doing a safety check on the remaining glass.
