Communities around metro Atlanta are holding a number of commemorative events, worship services and tributes leading up to and on Sept. 11.

9/11 Field Of Flags
Kennesaw will host a weekend-long event starting Friday night with a concert and ending after a Sunday morning church service.

North Fulton County
September 11 Liturgy of Remembrance
Sandy Springs' Liturgy of Remembrance service begins at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, 805 Mt. Vernon Hwy, NW. As part of the ceremony, the Sandy Springs Fire Department will assemble fire trucks with ladders raised and the American flag displayed. The Honor Guard of the Sandy Springs Police Department will present colors. Pipes and Drums of the Fire Department will march in procession. City, state and federal lawmakers are scheduled to attend. Congregation will assemble outside for the "civil" portion the service. A potluck luncheon honoring our local first responders will follow the service.
Johns Creek 9/11 Commemoration Event
Roswell 9/11 Tribute Ceremony at Roswell Area Park
The city of Roswell's memorial tribute begins at 1:30 .m. and will feature Roswell Fire and Police Honor Guard, the U.S. Coast Guard Pipe Band, the Holcomb Bridge Middle School Chorus and a floating wreath presentation. The ceremony takes place at the Mike Gann 9/11 Memorial, located near the lake in Roswell Area Park (10495 Woodstock Rd.)
9/11 Service Honoring Victims
City firefighters and police, along with Milton High School students, will set up a 9/11 memorial on the school's front lawn on Friday, Sept. 9 from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. A student-led memorial service will take place at 8 a.m. on Sept. 11. Residents can assist with removing flags from the school's front lawn from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 12. Milton High School is located at 13025 Birmingham Hwy.
Worship Service Honoring First Responders
Special Liturgy Marking the 15th Anniversary of 9/11
The event is hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 535 Rucker Road in Alpharetta, and begins at noon.
Patriot Day Chow Down
Milton first responders are invited to dinner at 4 p.m. at Milton's Cuisine, 800 Mayfield Road. Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood is scheduled to make remarks.
DeKalb County
DeKalb commissioners, CEO, public safety event
DeKalb County government officials and public safety personnel will hold memorial event on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. at the county's fire and rescue services headquarters, 1950 West Exchange Place, Tucker. The memorial will include a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. marking the time of the first crash into the north tower of the World Trade Center.
Georgia 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
The FirstService Residential and The Manhattan Condominium are hosting the stair climb to pay tribute to FDNY firefighters, police and EMS personnel "who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live". Each participant pays tribute by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. The climb begins at 8:46 a.m. at the Manhattan Condominium, 4561 Olde Perimeter Way in Dunwoody. Registration begins at 8 .m.
Decatur interfaith gathering
A community gathering takes place Sunday at 3 p.m. at Ebster Recreation Center, with pot-luck meal, and continues with an interfaith service at 4 p.m., focusing on the theme "Remember, Reconcile, and Relate". Attendees are encouraged to bring a simple dish to share and a lawn chair. The center is located at 404 W. Trinity Place.
