A neighbor shot video of a DeKalb County school bus that appears to be running through a red light on North Superior Road and North Decatur Road in Decatur.

After viewing the video, transportation director for the DeKalb County School District plan to send  out a warning Tuesday morning to the district's hundreds of bus drivers about the importance of obeying traffic laws. The district is investigating which bus was involved in the video.

“I couldn’t believe it. My mom is a teacher. It kind of scared me, there could have been some of her kids on the bus,” said Jack Slagle, a neighbor.

Jack Slagle shot the video after his father took him to the intersection to teach him a lesson about the dangers.

“We’ve had so many incidents at that traffic light,” David Slagle said.

Some neighbors are not surprised that a school bus ran the light. They said they have seen other buses run it before. The intersection on North Decatur Road is situated at the dip of a hill.

“It is certainly a danger anytime you are responsible for transporting other people especially children,” another neighbor, Julie Budnik,

In 2012, a bicyclist was killed near the intersection while traveling on North Decatur Road.

“We had a bicyclist that was killed there, a pedestrian that was killed there,” Slagle said.

Last week, a cement truck was involved in a serious wreck involving anothera car at the same intersection.

“We saw cars, trucks blowing through that light all the time,” said Katie Paden, another neighbor

“I think a longer-term solution needs to happen, there. There needs to be a light further up North Decatur Road,” Budnik added.

Neighbors are creating a committee to examine the traffic concerns.
