The Roswell City Council has amended its alcoholic beverages code to allow craft beer and wine markets offering package sales and limited consumption of the product on the premises.

Such markets will be allowed in areas with zoning that already allows on-site consumption, according to the ordinance amendment. Hours of operation would be limited to 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays and to midnight on weekends and holidays.

The ordinance defines craft beer as coming from a brewery with an annual production of 6 million barrels or less. A craft beer and wine market would have to offer at least 100 different beer/wine selections and derive over 70 percent of its primary sales from those products.

Sales of distilled spirits would be prohibited. Food sales are permitted, provided all applicable laws and regulations are complied with, and so are growler sales, provided they’re for carry-out only.
