A pair of restaurants near Gwinnett's Mall of Georgia failed their recent health inspections.
Parma Tavern, located at 3350 Buford Drive, scored a 68/U. Saigon Cafe, located at 3380 Buford Drive, scored a 64/U. Both were inspected May 12.
At Parma -- which offers "an eclectic mix of Italian-inspired tavern dishes," according to its website -- health inspectors reportedly observed employees "preparing raw beef and raw chicken on the prep tables" while bags of flour, other foods and clean dishes were stored on the shelves below. Other foods were improperly cooled or labeled, inspectors noted.
In addition, "multiple coolers were not properly working" and fry baskets and pasta strainers had "broken wires," officials said.

At Saigon Cafe -- which has seven locations in the metro Atlanta area -- inspectors noted raw chicken stored above raw beef, "mold-like buildup inside the ice machine" and inappropriate cleaning methods. Employees were wiping down tables using "multiple wiping cloths from the same sanitizer bucket," the report said.
Inspectors also noted bags of meat stored on the floor and shrimp "being prepped on the dish sink drainboard." Several items -- including a can opener -- were "rusted and in disrepair," officials said.
Saigon Cafe received a 44/U on an inspection last July, the report noted.
Follow-up inspections are generally held within 10 days of the original evaluation.
