Clayton County Sheriff's deputies are trying to determine how two fifth-graders got the marijuana they allegedly brought to school, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Officials at Harper Elementary School in Riverdale learned of the drugs after the two boys talked in class about having a medium-sized bag of marijuana, and another child overheard and told administrators.

Sheriff’s deputies told Channel 2 that they would talk to the children’s parents. The parents could face charges if they had anything to do with the youngsters getting hold of the drugs.

As for the boys, deputies say they will leave their discipline to school administrators because of the alleged offenders' age. School officials did not respond to requests for comment, Channel 2 reported.

Parents were shocked at the news.

“It's crazy. Society is falling apart,” Benny Frazier told Channel 2.
