Raw sewage flowing into nine apartment buildings forced Fulton County officials to find temporary housing for 40 families Tuesday night.

Code enforcement officials arrived unannounced following numerous complaints reported at the Grove Apartment Complex on Welcome All Road in College Park, according to Tony Phillips with the county's environmental enforcement office.

"Typically when you get a rash of calls, it's indicative of a bigger issue," Phillips said.

Inspectors deemed nine buildings unfit and unhealthy for residents, due mostly to raw sewage, Phillips said. The older complex has had previous maintenance issues, he said.

"Our primary and first concern is always for the safety of our residents and out citizens," Phillips said.

The county will provide temporary housing for all of those displaced Tuesday. The buildings affected are not condemned and could be deemed livable again if repairs are completed, Phillips said.

The code enforcement office has alerted the county solicitor's office for possible legal action.
