Recent rains have caused Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services to push back the anticipated opening date of the new Fire Station 9 in north Canton.

"During the first of the year, the fire department was hoping that the station would be turned over to the department on April 1," according to the agency's web site. "However, due to all of the rain that we have received during the past several weeks, it appears now that firefighters will hopefully move in sometime around June or July of this year."

The new station’s living area is being completed with the installation of sheet rock and a sprinkler system, Division Chief Dean Floyd said. Contractors also have been working on mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.

The facility will replace the old North Canton Volunteer Fire Department building, constructed in 1973 across the street on Reinhardt College Parkway. The new station will have three bays and living quarters for as many as 12 firefighters at a time. Information: https://bit.ly/38Ip2Lk
