Racing motoryclist killed in Marietta

A motorcyclist who was racing another on Canton Road in Marietta Wednesday night was killed when he fell off and was struck by a car, Cobb County police said.

Police did not release the name of the deceased, pending notification of his family.

The other motoryclist, David James Tipton, 34, of Marietta was charged with vehicular homicide, racing, reckless driving and DUI following the 10:45 p.m. accident.

According to police, Tipton was riding a 2004 Honda VFR800 and racing a 2007 Suzuki GSXR 1000 northbound on Canton Road. The Suzuki rider was weaving in and out of traffic when he clipped the rear of a Mercury Villager van. The collision redirected him to the southbound lanes, where he fell off the bike and was hit by a Toyota Camry.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
