A state probation officer has been arrested on charges he attacked a woman whom he had once supervised and with whom he was sexually involved.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, agents went to the Newnan probation office to interview James John Tohal, 31, of Senoia, Tuesday morning about allegations that he had assaulted the woman with a knife at a house in Franklin during the Easter weekend.
Tohal, when confronted by his supervisor, allegedly grabbed his service revolver and ran from the office. Police arrested him at a Meridian, Miss., restaurant Tuesday evening.
The investigation began when Heard County Sheriff Ross Henry called the GBI to investigate a female probationer’s assault report and claims she had an ongoing intimate relationship with Tohal, her previous probation officer.
Tohal was in jail in Mississippi on Wednesday night and will be returned to Georgia to face charges of aggravated assault and violating his oath of office.
