Powder Springs to restripe bike lanes

For the first time in a decade, the bike lanes on Lewis Road in Powder Springs will be restriped.

The Powder Springs City Council voted 5-0 on May 18 to pay almost $20,235 to Highway Services.

Stretching from downtown to U.S. 278, the Lewis Road improvements project was completed in 2010 to include on-road bike lanes, which have since faded.

When Councilwoman Nancy Farmer questioned the “high” cost during the work session immediately preceding the regular meeting, City Manager Pam Conner responded it was “a safety issue.”

During the public comment portion at the beginning of the meeting, Larry Thomas also said, “$20,000 seems an awful lot for a road that is barely a mile long and I’ve never seen a biker.”
