UPDATE: Martin's Restaurant on Jimmy Carter Boulevard was re-inspected Sept. 2 and received a 93/A.

The only violations reported were an employee's drink stored on a shelf above the food preparation area and an ice scoop "stored in product with handle in contact with ice."

ORIGINAL STORY: A popular Gwinnett breakfast spot failed its recent health inspection, with officials noting lax handwashing among employees and improperly cooling food.

The Martin's Restaurant location at 6350 Jimmy Carter Blvd. in Norcross received a 61/U on the Aug. 22 inspection.

According to the inspector's report, an employee was observed not washing their hands prior to "putting on new gloves for food service." Multiple employees also had uncovered drinks in the kitchen and sausage was being kept too warm, officials said.

The inspector also noted "multiple bottles" of unlabeled chemicals.

"Person in charge could not answer questions about the employee health policy," the inspector also wrote, "including what needs to be reported and to whom."

Martin's bills its biscuits as "the finest in the business" and operates 15 restaurants across Georgia, mostly in the Cobb County area. Messages left at the chain's corporate office were not immediately returned Wednesday morning.

Follow-up inspections are generally completed within 10 days of failing evaluations.
