Alpharetta police have accused a Roswell man of shooting at a woman on North Point Parkway near the North Point Mall on Tuesday night.
Calmetruis Dawkins, 20, faces aggravated assault charges after police say he shot at woman and her brother in a California Pizza Kitchen parking lot.
Police allege the incident occured after the victim and her brother confronted Dawkins about allegedly stealing money from them.
After shooting three rounds, Dawkins fled on foot while a woman pursued him, according to the police report.
A police officer working a traffic accident farther down North Point Parkway said he witnessed the woman catch up to Dawkins and start fighting. Dawkins then produced a handgun and fired twice, a police report said.
Alpharetta Officer George Gordon said Dawkins a bullet pierced the woman's jacket, but missed the woman.
“He was literally two feet away from her and luckily she was not hit,” Gordon said.
Gordon said the police officer's dash board camera captured the scene.
Several witnesses called 911 to report a man fighting with the victim.
One caller reported: “There was a guy running down the road on North Point Parkway with a girl following him. She was chasing him. I thought I saw something in the road coming toward me and it was people running.”
Another woman reported hearing several gunshots, while another reported hearing screaming in the parking lot of a nearby shopping center.
“I heard a female screaming, ‘You got a gun, you got a gun,’ something like that,” the caller told dispatchers.
Police say the suspect wasn’t cooperating with the investigation.
“An absolutely crazy incident for us,” Gordon said. “Absolutely senseless.”
