Investigators believe speed was a factor in a crash that killed a 24-year-old Austell man and shut down a Cobb County road early Monday.

About 11:52 p.m. Sunday, Emanuel Carapia was driving eastbound on Clay Road in a yellow 2013 Ford Focus, Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

As Carapia tried to drive along the curved roadway, he “apparently lost control of the automobile just prior to hitting the curb on the north side of the road,” Pierce said.

“After doing so, the vehicle continued in an easterly direction and collided with a fence, along with another tree, before coming to an uncontrolled stop” at Clay Road and Light Way.

Carapia was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Pierce said.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call 770-499-3987.
