A pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday morning on a Gwinnett County interstate ramp.

The incident happened about 6:30 a.m. on the collector/distributor ramp from Ga. 20/Buford Drive to I-85 northbound, Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said.

Ritter said the man, who was possibly homeless, crossed the southbound lanes of the interstate, then the northbound lanes, and was hit while crossing the northbound ramp.

Investigators have a possible identification on the man, but will not release his name until relatives are notified.

Ritter said at 8:30 a.m. that the ramp would be reopened to traffic “very shortly.”
