A student at Georgia Military College was hit and killed Tuesday night as she walked across U.S. 29 in Fairburn, possibly toward a MARTA bus stop, police said.

Officers confirmed Kameelah Easley, 18, of East Point, took the MARTA bus home from the junior college at night.

“A witness at the scene said the pedestrian walked in front of the single vehicle that was involved in the accident,” Fairburn police Lt. Anthony Bazydlo said.

The accident that killed Easley happened about 7:15 p.m. near Shaw Drive.

“There is not a crosswalk at this location,” Bazydlo said.

Police said the driver was cooperative and there were no signs of impairment.

The driver was not charged and was released from the scene.

Bazydlo did not say what led police to conclude the woman may have been headed to a bus stop at the time of the fatal crash.

“We will be investigating the accident over the next several days,” he said.
