Gwinnett has closed on the $14 million purchase of Simpsonwood from the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Funded primarily by SPLOST, the Simpsonwood acquisition provides an opportunity to preserve green space and provide passive recreational opportunities for Gwinnett residents.

Despite Peachtree Corners’ $2 million contribution toward the 223-acre purchase, the county retains 100 percent control of the property. Peachtree Corners does not expect to have any operational control of the property and is unaware of plans for the existing structures. A timeline has not yet been established for planned improvements to the park property. The first step in the process is to develop a park master plan, which is anticipated to begin within the year.
