Dec 27, 2018Following the annexation of a Fayette County retail area that includes a pawnshop, Peachtree City has added an ordinance to regulate such businesses.
The City Council voted 5-0 on Dec. 20 to address the situation by adopting an ordinance similar the county’s, although no new pawn shops will be permitted. Previously, the city has not allowed pawnshops to operate within its borders, noting that they can be “exploited by criminals as a means to dispose of stolen items.”
The existing business, Peachtree City Pawn at 1980 Ga. Hwy. 54 West, will be treated as “a legally non-conforming use” that is subject to an annual licensing fee of $2,000, plus $75 for the application and $25 each for employee permits and fingerprinting.
