Peachtree City is tweaking its procedure for appointing citizens to municipal boards, commissions and authorities.

The City Council voted 5-0 on Oct. 17 to amend Sec. 2-336 of its code to change the composition of selection committees. Those committees will now consist of two council members appointed by the mayor, along with the chair (or a designee) of the board in question. The city manager will serve as a non-voting selection committee member and coordinator to ensure compliance with the ordinance requirements. If a board vacancy has a large number of applicants that exceeds the “reasonable availability” of in-person interviews, the applicants will be ranked by council members to determine which will be interviewed for the position.
